What is the weather like in Calgary in October?

Generally, the high temperature in October reaches around 13 C (43F) with a low of around -1C (35F). Snow is also possible but not guaranteed.

How far is the hotel from the airport, and how do I get there?

The University and hotels are approximately 18 km (12 mi) from the airport. Travel time is about 25 minutes by taxi. More information can be found on the “Transportation” page.

What is there to do around the hotel and in the Calgary area?

There are a lot of great things to do in the area, from shopping and site-seeing to ghost town adventures! Please see our “Activities” page for a detailed list of things to do.

Do I need a Visa to enter Canada?

You may need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization, depending on the country of origin. Visit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/apply-who.asp to determine what travel documents you will require to enter Canada.

When are abstracts due?

July 31, 2017

How many abstracts can I submit?

As many as you would like. Be aware that the Science Committee has the option to choose abstracts for either oral or poster presentations.

How will I know if my abstract was accepted?

You will receive an email.

Do I have to present a paper to attend the conference?

No, presenting a paper is optional.

Will the conference presentations be recorded?

No. You may record your own presentation. However, recording other presentations is prohibited without previous authorization.

Are families invited to the Gala Dinner?

Yes, but you must purchase an additional ticket for each guest when you register for the conference. Tickets are $65 each.

Are there any grants available to help with the costs of attendance?

Yes. The George Baer Latin American Investigator Award is awarded to one new rabies researcher each year. See “George Baer Latin Award” page for more information.

No other grants are considered.

What is included in the registration fee?

The registration fee includes entrance to the conference, informational packets, breaks, and the Gala Dinner.

The registration fee does not include additional tickets to the Gala Dinner for guests. These can be purchased during registration.

Will there be simultaneous translation at the conference?

Yes. Translation will be provided in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Can I get a certificate of attendance for the conference?

Yes.

You will receive an individual attendance certificate under the name registered to the conference and a certificate for each paper that you present (oral or poster). The title of the paper and all the co-authors registered will be included on the certificate.

*Please carefully review your information when you register, because that is what will appear on the certificate.

Can I change from oral presentation to poster or vice versa?

Possibly, depending on the selection you made when submitting your paper and at the discretion of the Scientific Committee. Email contact@ritaconference.org to request a presentation style as soon as possible.

Can someone else present my paper in my name?

Yes.

Please inform the conference organizers as early as possible by emailing contact@ritaconference.org.

Note that the Certificate of Attendance will not be delivered, but the Certificate of your paper will be delivered to the speaker.

How long are the oral presentations and what materials are needed?

Each oral presentation is 12 minutes long with 3 minutes for Q&A. As a courtesy to others, please limit your presentation to the time allotted.

PowerPoint presentations should be turned in before the conference begins. If that is not possible, it should be submitted before your session at the latest. Please provide your PowerPoint with enough time to be ready for your session.

Can I get a reduced registration fee if I don't attend the entire conference?

No. There is one fee for the entire conference.

When and where is registration check-in?

Registration check-in will take place at the University of Calgary Conference Centre on
• Sunday, October 22nd from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
• Monday, October 23rd through Wednesday, October 25th from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
On-site registration will also be available at these times (cash only).

When does registration close?

Online registration closes October 15, 2017. On-site registration will be available (cash only).

Can I cancel my conference registration?

Yes, you can cancel until July 31, 2017. A $50 cancellation fee applies. No cancellation requests will be honoured after July 31st, though substitutions will be allowed.
